A friend of mine gave me a link to the excellent Tales from the Hellmouth. So if you still want some HS horror storries after you've read my site, go there! The site has made me think more about my recent high school life some more. I think I have never had more than three "real" friends at any given time. So join me as we enter the Hall of My Friends.
One of my first friends was named Dustin. He lived on the end of my block, and I remember it very vividly: I saw him playing with some toy trucks, and he invited me to play with him. That was that, we were friends! If only adult life could be so simple! We were both in the local community hockey program, except he didn't suck. My dad would go to our practices and record him! I think he recorded me falling down on my ass once, but everything else was all about Dustin, our hockey hero! He'd even make copies of the tapes and make me give them to Dustin's dad. I didn't think much of it then, but it irritates me now. Dustin eventually moved away in maybe the 3rd grade, and I haven't seen him since. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gonna play hockey in college or something, it was in his blood.
Dustin introduced me to two other friends at that time: Eddy and his little brother Jeremy. Dustin, Eddy, and Jeremy formed my core friends from Kindergarten to 3rd-4th grade, until everything fell apart (more on that in a bit). Eddy occasionally was an asshole to me. Once he pushed me, and my bare feet tripped on some weird metal spike in his yard...I still have a scar. Jeremy was much cooler, though. Eddy, being the older brother, frequently tried to keep Jeremy from playing with us. All was well until Dustin moved away. Shortly after that there was a small fire in Eddy and Jeremy's house, and they too moved away. But, alas, I was not without friends for long.
Seeing how he's my first friend, I should have mentioned Andy first. We met in Kindergarten, but we went to different schools after that. But until his mom got home from work, he'd stay at his aunt's after school, who happened to live across the street from me. So we'd frequently get together after school. I have to say, our friendship was weird. Sometimes we'd just forget about each other and not do anything, and sometimes we'd do something everyday for weeks. I haven't heard from him in awhile...maybe almost a year. I'm amazed we still managed to be friends without having a common school. I should call him, if only to see what he's planning on doing this fall...
Now enter John, who I guess you could say is my current best friend. We've known each other since the 1st grade, but I'm not sure at what time we became 'real friends.' He seems to have a very good memory of our 'early days,' while I do not. He says when he first met me he thought I was a jerk. I forget why. But somewhere along the line we became friends. For some reason he did no college planing. I'm starting college next month, and he still hasn't taken the ACTs. He says he's gonna go to a community college, and transfer somewhere later. Because he's not moving anywhere, I think (and I hope) we can remain friends. He's a really cool person, very unique. He's a "band geek" (his words, not mine!), but he's also a big wrestler and football player, and well liked by everyone.
Hah, wow. I just now remembered a friend I almost forgot! In fact, I forget his name! In fact, now that I think about it, he was an asshole that took advantage of my friendship... I'll skip him. Since this paragraph looks pathetically short, I'll mention Eric. He was my friend for about a year between 6th and 7th grade, while he lived at the end of my block. He was actually a big fucking bully, but was nice to me for some reason. He always bragged about how he'd kicked someone's ass, and I didn't doubt him. I remember we played all through Final Fantasy II with two controllers. He'd controll two players, and I'd controll three, and etc. We also played a lot of Quest for Glory I and III. He moved somewhere down south for a few years, and came back in my junior year. He was even worse than before. Always getting kicked out of school and failing classes, I don't think he even graduated. His habitual lying was too much for me to take to be his friend again. But he always greeted me in the hall andacted like we were good buds and shit in the few classes we were in. There, this paragraph looks nice and fat now...moving on.
And now there's Chad. I probably spent the night at Chad's house while we were friends more than I did at my own home. Our parents would joke about moving me in there. We'd play kickball and other sports and shit outside his first house a lot. I didn't like to stay in his house too long as it smelled of dog. During high school he moved across town. For a year or so our friendship was unaffected. But eventually he started making friends with the other kids that lived in the area, and we just sorta stopped doing shit.
Last, there's Adam. I met Adam through John in maybe the 9th grade, but don't quote me on that. He's a smart-ass, literally. He'd get above 4.0 GPAs and shit because of IB (International Bacc...aw, I can't spell it...). I always got this 'holier than thou' feeling from him, like he looked down on everyone that wasn't an A+ student. He also has a serious road rage problem. He can't drive one block without a midget crawling up his ass. I feel bad that I got him addicted to crappy anime porn. He'd pay $30 or more for 30 minutes of crappy hentai shit. I think he stopped buying them now, but he was nuts for awhile there... I don't know if we'll be friends still during college. We're both living on campus at different universities (although not far apart, really). But who knows.
So that's the complete list of everyone in my life who at one time or another was honored with the lable of "friend." What will the future hold? Who knows. I only wish my list of girlfriend's covered this much space.
