I am so angry right now. I have never been this angry in my life. I am shaking. You know whats fucked up, I'm angry over a MOVIE. Not the movie, but the people who saw it.Recently a movie called Princess Mononoke was released to theaters, and the Twin Cities (where I live) was selected as a test market for the movie. It's 'anime' (Japanese animation) by one of the greatest PEOPLE (I think) in the world, Hayao Miyazaki. When I was little I saw a movie called "Warriors of the Wind." It was a 'cartoon' that was SO DIFFERENT from other cartoons that I was amazed. As I grew older and learned more about animation from Japan I learned that it was really called "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" by Miyazaki. A few weeks ago I actually saw it as part of an Asian Film Festival, where they showed every one of his movies, including Princess Mononoke. It was like a part of my life had been completed. I have read alot about Miyazaki, and he has such genuis and integrity that it amazes me.
I have already seen PM twice, and now I wanted to share it with my mother... Now, PM is VERY different from Disney shit. There's rotting dead boars, decapitation, and other such 'shocking' things. I can understand that for someone who has never seen anything but Disney shit, it can seem so different that your first reaction is to laugh. But the first two times the people got used to it and really got 'into' the movie, but this time down front there were some dumb fucking teenagers that thought everything was fucking hilarious. I wanted to thow my popcorn, my pop, and anything else within sight at them. If they can't realize that it's a great movie then they should SHUT THE FUCK UP!
I was initially worried that people would see that it was animated, and immediately bring there kids, but now I wish they did. The few kids who were there looked just like me when I saw Warriors of the Wind. They knew it was something magical and unique... When this movie can be the second highest grossing movie in Japan, and only laughed at in America...I wonder about this country.
